Drones have been around for quite some time now. They are easy enough to order online or pick up from your local Best Buy, not to mention they are decently affordable. While there is a learning curve to flying a drone, it is clear that it is doable for many. So why hire a professional drone pilot to get content for your projects?
1. The Most Legal Way to Get the Highest Quality Content in the Sky
Flying a drone for commercial work falls under what is referred to as Part 107 of the FAA Guidelines. So if you want drone photos or videos for your business or for any purpose in making a profit, then you need a pilot with a Part 107 Certification to fly the drone. Flying a drone without a certification for these purposes can result in heavy fines.
2. The Most Efficient Way to Get Drone Content
Getting photos with a drone requires understanding framing and attention to the sun or other lights in the area. Professional pilots understand the capabilities of their drone’s features. They know that the drone can shoot photos in a particular format that would look best for the desired outcome of the client. Or that the drone can actively track a subject while they run or drive. A pilot will know instantly how best to use their drone to help you with your project.
3. They Have Passed a Rigorous Certification Process
Anyone can become certified, but it takes several months to study, pass, and receive a Part 107 Certification. The test is not easy (take it from me, who failed the first time) and it can be expensive. The Certification ensures that pilots know how Air Traffic Control (ATC) operates, read Air Sectional Charts, understand local weather reports written by ATC, and know the proper altitudes to fly at, among several other things. All this helps ensure that the pilot, drone, and other aircraft stay as safe as possible.
Like I mentioned, piloting a drone takes time and effort to fly. Each drone flies slightly differently and each has their own features. A professional drone pilot knows his or her drone inside and out and can fly it to the best of their ability and the drone’s capabilities. For example, flying the drone around a subject takes time to understand which controls to use and how steady to fly the drone in order to get the best shot possible.
Here at DARCI Creative I am our certified drone pilot. With a background in filmmaking and video I know how best to get the creative and clean looking shots with our two drones. Knowing how to frame a shot, especially with a camera hundreds of feet above you, can be very challenging. After two years of flying drones I have certainly mastered the art of flying a drone and getting high quality content for projects. By planning out the shoot for the right time of the day and scoping out the location for obstacles, such as light poles or trees, I can confidently get the perfect shots for your project.
Using a professional drone pilot helps assure that you get the most out of a drone’s and a filmmaker’s capabilities.
